LGST 3785 - Feminist Legal Theory


Goals: Become familiar with feminist legal theory and theoretical methods used to analyze and critique the gendered implications of rules embedded in deeper structures of the law. Practice critical thinking about equality, neutrality, fairness; develop contextual reasoning.

Content: Historical and contemporary feminist concepts and schools of thought that inform feminist legal theories and feminist legal methods; feminist legal theory’s connection to analyses of sex, gender, race, sexualities, class, and other intersectional categories of analysis; how feminist legal theory can be applied to real-life contexts and substantive areas of law. 

Prerequisite: LGST 1110 or LGST 1300 with grade of C- or better, or instructor permission
