ESTD 3950 - Environmental Systems and Relationships

Goals: To study environmental systems and relationships from interdisciplinary perspectives; to explore environmental topics through a mix of readings, individual and group projects, and class discussion; to practice environmental research, repair, and advocacy.

Content: Highlighting approaches from the interdisciplinary approaches to environmental studies, this seminar will provide students from any program with individual and group experience analyzing and addressing environmental issues. We will practice using multiple methodologies and ways of understanding environments and will discuss interdisciplinary topics in environmental studies selected by students. Students collaborate with each other to analyze readings on environmental topics of local and global significance, learn to write a literature review, facilitate a discussion, effectively carry out a group project on campus, and develop and submit a proposal for potential further work – for research, environmental justice advocacy, or for funding a project or further studies. Students are encouraged (but not required!) to build connections between this course and internship experiences.

Taught: Annually

Prerequisite: ESTD 1100
