ANTH 3390 - Field Experience in Ghana



Goals: To become familiar with Ghanaian history and cultural worlds; to learn about the socio-political and economic conditions typical of much of West Africa; and to gain experience in field methods in the context of a foreign country.

Content: The arts and music of Ghana; timber, cocoa, and gold of the Ashanti region; Islamic influences in the Northern region; nature preserves; the trans-Atlantic slave trade; and how to transform sensory experiences into ethnographic representations.

Taught: Alternate years, extended spring term.

Prerequisite: Consent of instructor.

Credits: 4 credits
