ANTH 5200 - Anthropological Writing and Representation



Goals: To gain experience with the principles and practices of anthropological writing by using one’s own data set for practice. Final projects can serve as a portion of a senior thesis.

Content: Discussion and analysis of how anthropologists transform field research into written and visual representations. Examination of anthropological writings that are experimental and exceptional in nature. Attention will be paid to the integration of description and theory, as well as the ethics and politics of understanding and portraying others.
Taught: Annually.
Prerequisite: Junior or senior anthropology majors.
