HIST 1300 - Introduction to United States History
Topics and time periods covered vary from year to year. Recent examples: U.S. History from 1607 to 1865; U.S. History from 1865. Goals: To survey social, economic and political aspects of American history from the early 17th century to the present day.
Content: Topics such as immigration, the building of social and political institutions, the Westward expansion and its effect on the nation, changes in the American economy during the early 19th century, the road to the Civil War, industrialization and its impact on American society, reform and the move toward a welfare state, ethnic relations within American society, and the rise of the U.S. To world power. Taught: Annually.
