LAW 9651 - Externship: Semester in Practice The Semester in Practice Program provides students an opportunity to spend a semester doing legal work, for 30‑40 hours a week, while fully immersed in a law office, government agency, legal department, or other law‑related setting. In the field work component of the program, students pursue self‑designed learning goals at an approved site under the supervision of onsite attorney mentors. In an accompanying academic component, working in collaboration with a Hamline faculty member, students reflect on their field work experiences and relate them to larger legal, policy, and practice issues.
To be eligible for Semester in Practice, students must have completed at least one half of the credits required for graduation and be in good academic standing. Students in their last semester of law school must have met all other requirements for graduation and have at least a 3.0 grade point average. Enrollment is subject to approval by the Associate Dean of Experiential Education and Curriculum and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
Students may enroll in no more than two externships during law school for a total of no more than 15 credits.
