ESL 8100 - Introduction to Applied Linguistics This course provides a broad, applied introduction to the study of language by covering such core areas as phonetics and morphology, and by applying this knowledge to TESOL instruction. Additionally, the course connects structural elements to broader discourse-pragmatic functions, such as participant and process roles; and helps expand participants’ knowledge of World Englishes and language universals by including data from different varieties of English and other languages. Graduate-level research skills are addressed in the context of writing the advance to candidacy paper.
