PHYS 3700 - Condensed Matter Physics


Goals: To introduce students to the concepts of condensed matter physics.

Content: The study of crystalline and noncrystalline structures; the free electron gas; Fermi surfaces; energy bands; semiconductors; superconductors; magnetism; dielectrics; surfaces & nanostructures.

Taught: Fall term, every other year.

Prerequisite: PHYS 3540 or consent of instructor.

Credits: 4 credits
