LSTD 5000 - Latin American Studies

Goals: This course will focus on the discipline of Latin American Studies through the U.S. response to rebellions, reform and revolutions in Latin America during the (long) 20th century.

Content: We will begin the semester with an introduction to approach and theories, with particular interest in how the U.S. “saw” Latin America and what Latin Americans thought of these portrayals. We then move chronologically through several significant Latin American conflicts into which the U.S. involved itself.
