Major Requirements

The major in psychology requires a minimum of 40 semester credits that must include:

Seminar

At least one 5000-level seminar

Note:

5000-level seminars are available to psychology majors who have attained senior status or have completed 28 semester credits in psychology including PSY 1330 and 1340; these seminars may also have other prerequisites. The seminar requirement may be fulfilled by completing one of the 5000-level seminars, each of which is limited to 15 students, or by completing the senior departmental honors sequence. Although registration priority is given to seniors who have not completed the seminar requirement, qualified majors may enroll in more than one seminar on a space-available basis. A student should confer with members of the department when planning a program for a career in psychology. The pattern of courses a student will take depends on his or her background and special interests. Related courses in other departments are usually taken from the social sciences and natural sciences, but supporting work in the humanities and fine arts is encouraged.

As a rule, coursework from other departments is not counted in the psychology major. Exceptions include one of the above-named statistics courses and EDU 3250: Educational Psychology.
