German Minor

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: College of Liberal Arts

Students may major in German at the present time, though course selection is limited due to the likely phase-out of the German program at Hamline. Students will be advised to enroll in German courses at Augsburg University, Macalester College, or the University of St. Thomas through Hamline’s ACTC affiliation. Course transfers from study abroad programs may also be used to meet requirements of the German minor, with approval.

Minor Requirements

Five courses in German beyond 1120. One of these five courses can be taught in English, provided the content focuses significantly on the German-speaking world or on comparative linguistics (for example, MODL 1010 - The Language Phenomenon, or MODL 1020 - Language and Society). German courses taken through study abroad and/or ACTC may count toward the minor with the prior approval of the Modern Languages department chair.
