Digital Media Arts Major

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: >College of Liberal Arts

As with all artist training programs, courses in Digital Media Arts stress the development of technical skills in parallel with readings and experiences that focus on sharpening aesthetic awareness and critical understandings. The design of this major is interdisciplinary and the focus is on experiential learning in a reflective, critical context. Your selection of the two interconnected electives is an important part of this process. Your choices should be considered in concert with ongoing discussions with your advisor – and you will be asked to explain to a committee of faculty the intellectual coherence in your selections once they have been finalized.

A critical part of developing as an artist is a process of regular formal review of accomplished work. To accomplish this goal all majors and minors must participate in scheduled portfolio reviews.

Major Requirements

To earn a degree in Digital Media Arts requires the completion of 12 4-credit courses and 2 2-credit capstone courses.

Interconnected Electives (2 courses)

The two courses in this cluster expand and refine your understanding of digital media as a technological force across disciplines. Each student, working with an advisor, will design and plan a sequence of courses to meet this requirement. The two courses must reflect a cohesive intellectual investigation. At least one of the courses in this sequence must be at the 3000-level or above. The two course sequence must be approved by the Chair of the Digital Media Arts program.
