Requirements
Students must complete the Education Department courses for a Minnesota teaching license (see Education Co-Major). Certification for teaching secondary school in Minnesota (5-12) also requires a major that meets the departmental requirements. The following courses must be taken for licensure and may be included in the English major.
Note: A course may serve duplicate functions in both the major and the licensure requirements.

Secondary licensure students must include the following courses among their 3000-level courses:
Secondary licensure students are required to ensure that they have taken:
- One course at any level in which gender issues are a major part
- One course at any level in which race/ethnicity issues are a major part
