LAW 9512 - Federal Courts This course prepares students to work or practice in the federal courts by examining advanced constitutional and civil procedure issues related to the limited jurisdiction of such courts. The course revolves around two key themes: federalism and separation of powers. Additionally the course considers essential aspects of federal court procedure and practice. Topics covered may include congressional power over federal courts jurisdiction; the power of federal courts to make “federal common law”; means of enforcing federal laws against state and federal officers; doctrines of federal and state governmental immunity; Supreme Court review of state court judgments; and the law of federal habeas corpus.
