GED 7894 - Secondary Student Teaching 9-12 Secondary student teaching provides the teacher-candidate the experiences to connect theory and practice in the context of 9 - 12 classrooms through instructional planning and implementation in an assigned learning environment. The teacher-candidate’s responsibilities include: long-term planning; implementation of an integrated curriculum; the facilitation of small- and large-group learning environments; and the development of assessment systems that support the Minnesota graduation standards for K - 12 students.
This course is only open to teacher-candidates who have adequate preparation in licensure areas; have demonstrated proficiency in Minnesota’s Standards for Effective Practice for Beginning Teachers (SEPBTs); have received formal approval by the MAT faculty to student teach; have met all MAT program requirements; and have demonstrated the dispositions, knowledge, and skills to enter the teaching profession. Concurrent registration at GED 0050: Student Teaching Seminar each week is also required. Notes: Teacher-candidates must attend a student-teaching intake session, which takes place in the fall semester. Contact your advisor or the Placement Office for scheduling information.
